It sounds like an old tractor when you first start it for about 20 mins or till warm do you think if i change the oil this may stop

Gaz
Gaz, you'll have to check that this oil is called up for your vehicle because I don't know what your full spec is. The only way to find out is to put your reg into this link and see what it calls up.

Thanks just checked and it recommends 5W 40 will check what was put in last service and if need be change it

Gaz, if you decide to change it, don't forget to change your filter too as certain oils don't mix.

My T30 is in for service on Monday and have aksed them to use 5w40 oil as opposed to 5w30. Will see how it fairs after it's service.

OK, had major service on my T30 and got back today, as the dealer had it for 2 days. A thorough full service with everything changed from engine oil to rear diffs oil, air con system re-gassed, discs and pads all round..the full monty. The change of oil to 5W40 has made a big difference, it sounds almost like a 'normal car' starting up. Everything just seems tight again and runs and sounds much better all round.

I think Nissan have dropped a clanger on the diesel oil spec for the Di & DCi the 5w 30 is for the QR engines. The last time I used 5w 30 oil was in a Ford Escort 1.6 petrol that had hydraulic tappets so the oil viscosity had to be thinner. No more Death rattle eh

So true. I did not get mine serviced at Nissan, but called them regarding oil and it seems they now use 5w40, as opposed to the recommended oil in the handbook as they now state it's too thin. Appreciate the head up on this Umbungo.

could do with a crib sheet like this for the T31. I also notice the fuel makes a difference. Im on holiday on the isle of Mull at the moment and as last year I notice the engine is much more noisy on Island fuel instead of its usual diet of BP / Shell. I try to run out by the time I leave the island and fill up with some good stuff on the mainland. The 3 garages on the island are "Gleaner" which come in a Shell tanker but I suspect it is a Shell base product. The price yesterday for this 126.9 p !!!
For the same reason I won't use supermarket fuels.
