On the many other forums I visit one of the most FAQ is which oil to use so as a start:

for the 2.0dci engine with a DPF fitted.

The Dealer uses Castrol TXT which is only available in 208 litre drums

Castrol have recomended to use Edge Turbo Diesel 0w-30 .
They say the following

Specifications / Performance
API SM/CF
ACEA A3/B3/B4/C3 BMW Longlife-04
MB 229.31/229.51
VW 505 00/502 00

HTHS value comes under the A3/B3 part ( ie - not fuel efficient ) which
is interesting because my data suggests they can also use an A1/B1 which
is fuel efficient.

The C3 is the important part - this is a Low SAPS spec - needed for
vehicles with DPF fitted.

I've been thinking of changing the engine oil for a while (I normally change half way between services because I tow a caravan for approx 4,000 miles a year)

What's been putting me off was the cost, £44 per 4 litres of Castrol Edge 0w 30 Turbo diesel in the U.K. and 7.5 litres required for the oil change making approx. £88 in total plus the filter. I normally buy in France which is generally cheaper but couldn't find Castrol edge TD 0w30 on sale this year.

I don't know why but I checked out e-bay and managed to get 9 litres (2x4l + 1x1l) for £58 including p&p. (delivered next day)

They're all gone at that price at present, most now being £44'ish + p&p per 4 litres but it may be well worth checking out at frequent intervals.

hi every one

The correct oil to use in the X-Trail Diesel with a DPF is
Comma Zyner Z 5-30 fully synthetic.

I have been in touch with Comma Oils and they have confirmed this.

I Hope this is of some use to people I have just order some and will be
using it in our own X-Trail

PS it is suitable for Petrol and Diesel engines with after exhaust filters.

Best price I have found is Wilco on line £125 for 4 x 5 ltr Packs ie 20 ltrs

Nissan's own oil is Part No's:1Litre bottle (KE900-90031) Spec ACEA-C3 Low Ash. 5 Litre bottle (KE900-90041) Spec ACEA-C3 Low Ash.

Just done an oil change today for 2.0l diesel M9R engine with particulate filter Owners manual recommends "Genuine Nissan oil" and the spec ACEA C3 Low ash nths 3.5, SAE 5W-30, Castrol edge do an oil in this spec as do Halfords but the Halfords did it for me as you get 5l for the price of 4l Castrol. This oil can be used in Diesel and Petrol engines and is the same spec as the VW and Audi longlife stuff. All oil is expensive (this is £41.99 for 5l) these days but to me its the right spec and its false economy not to use good oil and change regularly. I usually change oil every 6000 miles on my diesel cars, Nissan recommemd 12500 miles/yearly for this engine, its such a good quality spec I could be tempted to go to 12.5k miles. Still next time I'll only need 5l with the 2.5l i've got left after this change. :smile:

Just found this topic after problems with DPF filter, which has just been replaced under waranty.
Found the content interesting as on collection after the first years service the dealer handed me a 1ltr bottle of top up engine oil. This was Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5w50 emission system protection, fully synthetic oil.

Have not seen this oil mentioned in the lists above, although spec on back does list as for use with DPF filters. Could this be a problem ???? or another oil to add to the list

According to Castrol they reccommend Edge 5w 30 acea 3 low ash equivilent,Whish i will be putting in my 2008 2.0 Ltr X trail this afternoon.Many other Oil manufacturers have similar spec oils which they endorse.

To repeat the advice I read elsewhere on this forum, national tyres and autocare have quoted me £54 for oil and filter change using castrol edge 5w30 fully synthetic. This is cheaper than the halfords price for just the oil.

For those who like to DIY on oil changes though, the Castrol Edge oil currently has a tenner off at Halfords (£37.59 as as today's date)

Not sure how long the offer is on for.

I have used the Powerenhancer BG 248 in the fuel.

Has anyone found any advantages/disadvantages with using their BG DOC Diesel Oil Conditioner, or is it best to just leave the oil without any additives?

First service being done early next month, will make a point of asking what oil they (Western Nissan, Edinburgh) use.

A friend of mine said he's just seen some 5W30 C3 at Asda for £20 / 5 litres. It is Asda branded. Also, it appears to be a regular thing, not an offer.

Just to add (more) to this post. I bought 2 x 4 litres of fully synthetic 5W30 C3 oil from Tesco today (Tesco branded but hey it meets the spec). 8 litres worked out at £31.84.

Just to complete my earlier post in this topic, had my first service done by Western Nissan, Edinburgh last Thursday. They confirmed that they use the Oil mentioned by Umbongo namely: Nissan's own oil Spec ACEA-C3 Low Ash.

Was impressed by the efficient and courteous service I got, Nissan Micra was the courtesy car and the X-Trail was washed and mini valeted and I got them to change the wheels back to front. All included in the £349.00 3year service pack I bought a year ago at new.
