Hi

yesterday morning my x trail cut out a couple of times but restarted, then in afternoon everything well however this morning car won't start and glowplug light stays on, with a clicking sound from a valve or similar behind the intercooler on right hand side of the engine as you look at it, does anyone have any ideas?

I'm guessing there is an issue with the glow plug circuit - glow plug(s), harness, earth strap, relay etc.

An OBD2 compatible fault code reader should be able to read the error code for the glow plug light.

A couple of simple checks:

Check the battery voltage, with engine off and running.

Check the condition of the battery earth strap.

Check the fuse for the glow plugs.

Check the main relay.

Check the connections to the starter motor.

Not sure which part you are referring to behind the intercooler? Is it the fuel pump? Can you take a picture and circle so we know exactly what you are referring to?
