My 2003 Ex-Japan Automatic X-trail (97,000klm) has developed the intermittent problem of not changing down, especially when going uphill. It will either rev up without any acceleration or will momentarily hit a flat spot. If I hit the accelerator hard it will go into 2nd gear and be all right.

The problem usually happens after approx one 30 mins.

The local Nissan dealer cannot identify the fault as it has not happened when they have driven the vehicle.

Has any body had a similar problem and if so what was the solution?

I have sorted out the problem.. The problem was dirty ATF. I drained it and put clean ATF and it now works perfectly.. the consumption has improved significantly now!
