Personally I would just make sure the engine is well warmed up and then drain the oil out. Let it drain for around 15 mins and you will get nearly all of the old oil out. Then just fill up with new. Flushing oil can cause problems.XTnet said:

Asked a local factor about the sump washer, they said they do not sell them. I dont want to remove the plug and drain the old oil to find out I need something at 10pm one evening. Looking online it is not clear if I need to buy a copper washer, rubber seal or nothing... Probably worth doing a step by step as I complete the job me thinks.

Hi there - personally, I'd stick with what I know and 10/40 isn't the same as 5/40 (obviously! :lol: ).
Whilst some of the more cleverer members of our forum will be able to tell you what each number represents (something about viscosity at a given temperature, I think!) and be able to give you a more definitive answer dependent on your exy's usage, I don't know enough to risk anything but the exact specs of oil, fuel, coolant or whatever!

Cheers bloggsy as for use age all I will say is it takes me to work 30 mile each way between 5-7 days a week then does some running around when I'm home so miles tend to clock up on my cars, so is it rather than give them away if I won't be using them and bite the bullit and get some 5/40 as I have read somewhere on here that that was the preferred oil for the T30 I drive rather than the 5/30 if someone can confirm this before I go buy it thanks.
the 5 or 10 applies to the viscosity when cold, the 5 is thinner and will get around the engine a bit quicker especially in the winter. Given your mileage I would put the 10 40 in for summer and change to 5 40 for winter then stick to that. Are you a fellow horse sufferer (looking at your name!!!)
Personally, I wouldn't use the 10W40. (If I were closer, I'd buy it off you for my other car, mind)! The first number, as m500 said, is the viscosity when cold. 10 is thicker than 5. With an engine like the Exy that seems to be "marginal" in a variety of areas - particularly turbo bearings, I think you could do it a lot of damage using an oil with a thicker cold viscosity. It's true that in absolute terms, the oil will be thinner in summer (if we ever GET a summer, that is!) but I think that's probably in the realms of "might get away with it" rather than "wouldn't do any harm".
m500dpp I used to surf horses a very long time ago but now I'm the size of a dray horse it would be cruel, so just to confirm the halfords 10/40 is a no no then and safer than sorry go for the 5/40 then when I do the oil change.i have 2 halfords 10/40 part synthetic ACEA A3/B3 API SL CF that's no good boooo :roll:
Well 5 x 5 litres of 5/40 Fuchs Titan supersonic ordered yesterday delivered to the door today ,I bought 5 as I wanted to see what the service was like from opine oils and all in with priority carriage it was £139.24 so works out at £27.84 delivered when milners was going to be £36 so if you can wait or a few people get togeather it will work out cheaper as free postage on orders over £100 worth a thought
