Bought the car due to the head-gasket failure. Car covered just over 50,000 miles and started smoking and bought it off ebay in this condition for £460. It started ok when cold, but as it warms it would start smoking more heavily and puffing like a steam train. Coolant tank was then also overheating and gauge would shoot up. Engine is 2002 2.0 petrol QR20
If doing this use the Nissan Manual as a guide.

Cams removed, exhaust manifold was also disconnected previously. Make sure all lifters are numbers to go back in the same position.

Be careful not to drop timing pin when cams were removed. I did not change the chain.

Cams fitted and part of end casing. Note I had numbered all parts with chinagraph pencil when I took them off car, so made it easy to install back.

Inlet cam lined up, difficult to show good angle with camera
36139

Exhaust cam lined up. I had also mark the chain before I took it off in relation to the camshaft gear marks

Alternator back in place, I had also flush the cooling system and oil before taking the engine apart. Made sure use the correct green Nissan coolant to avoid future issues. The coolant needs to be changed regularly on these Nissan QR engines to avoid head gasket failure.
