Noticed since getting my new xtrail that its quite noisey on start up from cold, I take it this is a characteristic of the T31 diesel engine (sounds like the old diesel transit lol) , it soon returns to normal after a couple of minutes. my rav4 was similar but it had to be really cold

Hi have also just acquired a diesel T30 it also really noisy on start up even when the outside temperature is 20c but have been assured that this is normal.
i came to this from a 160,000 mile citroen HDI diesel which was still as quite on start up as the day i bought it so perhaps i was spoilt :biggrin: great car whenits warm though

Is it me? --- But mine is nice & quiet on start-up, even with the roof & windows open. Up to 19000 miles now. :grin:

mines got 153k on and is a bit noisey on start up :roll: ... but soon settles down :thumbs:

No, mine is still nice and quiet - almost 24,000 miles now - soon due for it's second service and almost one year old.
