Hi. My first post, so here goes.

Recently purchased an 05 T-Spec diesel.

Las night on my way home after driving around 450 miles the car went into limp home mode. No warning lights just very little power. I stopped, switched everything off and restarted and everything was okay again. This happened twice.

The only thing I think was the same was I had a stretch of downhill road, so I lifted off the accelerator for a couple of minutes, when I started going uphill again, that was when I had the problem.

Anyone out there had the same and what was the cause please?

Yes got the same problem, I've done as recommended on here & replaced fuel filter,air filter, MAF & cleaned EGR. Only run on Vpower fuel but still goes into limp mode mostly when on tickover so will watch your thread with interest to see if any other suggestions are made.

Thanks. Glad I am not the only one who has had the problem.

I haven't changed any filters etc. Yet, I am waiting to see if it happens again.

The vehicle was supposedly serviced before purchase.

I will wait and see how it goes. Hopefully someone will reply who has actually solved the problem.

Right guys you need to read this thread also as it refers to the same problem, if fact my XT has the same problem and is in the garage this Friday for a replacement fuel suction valve that was identified by a fault code when plugged in to the diagnostics.

Thanks for this info. Just looking at it, it doesn't seem to actually pinpoint the problem.

Has anyone had the problem and found the real cause and solved it?

My local Nissan dealer told me today that Nissan UK have issued a bulletine to all dealers about this problem, it effects X-Trails fitted with Denso fuel pumps to YD22DDT engine, part no. for the replacement fuel suction valve set is A6860AW42B.

Check with your Nissan Dealer first, turns out they were cheaper than local fuel injection specialists!

Well that was a waste of time and money, car went to my local independant garage last friday, fault coded as P0089 (fuel pressure regulator 1), they inturn passed it over to a fuel injection specialist to replace fuel suction valve assembly, they also fault coded it as P0089 but weren't convinced that would cure problem. I then contacted Nissan dealer to see if they could shed some light which is when they mentioned the bulletine about the problem saying it could be fixed witth the fuel suction valve, confidence restored I asked the nissan dealer to carry out the work on behalf of my independant garage (at this point I have been without the car for a week). After installing the new valve Nissan called back to say this hasn't cured the problem and further investigation needed.
I now have the car back with the same fault, less £380!

Any thoughts? I disconnected the battery also today to reset the ECU, no change, though I do now have the engine management light lit on the dash now!

How often are you getting the fault?

I have only had it happen twice on a long trip, although I have only owned the car for 3 weeks.

I am keeping fingers crossed it doesn't happen again.

I would be interested to know the frequency of your fault and the circumstances, ie. short trips or long etc.

It first happend about a month ago, short local round trip, stopped at traffic lights and on pulling away noticed lack of power, got home restarted engine and took a quick trip round the block with no return of problem. Then had a week away in Sussex, 80 mile trip down, five days touring around with no problems, but on the return journey 3 miles from home, stopped at traffic lights and the engine slipped into limp mode again! Since that week away it started to happen more frequently, its got to the point now that just letting the engine idle for a minute triggers the limp mode! :headbang:

Im still waiting for the Nissan dealer to report their latest findings (asuming they run some tests!), they had the car all day yesterday but I didn't hear a thing, my local garage picked the car up this morning as I guess they wanted their loan car back from me.
I'm asuming I'll be told I need a new pump but could the problem be ECU related, after all thats the part that's kicking in the limp home mode?
Either way this is going to more expensive than first anticipated, so much for Japanese quality!

Looking at some of the other posts, it's obviously not an isolated problem. You would have thought that Nissan would do more to get on top of the problem and sort it out.

Keeping fingers crossed, I have had no reoccurrence. Still early days.

hi posted on another thread but this one seems more relevant.
i drive a 2003 2.2 TD sport. noticed on long travel home at high speed 80mph some small power loss didn't think much of it as it cleared by the time i got home. following morning and fuel tank tank at quarter tank came out my drive an satrted experiecing power loss, i'v never heard of limp home mode before but i,m sure its what i am experiencing. now i have put in cleaner couple weeks previous and run on bp ultimate. there is no smoke from the exhaust

so read a few threads topped up the fuel and thrashed for 20 minutes ran fine for rest of day. again following daysame problem. took it the local garage in 1st/2nd gear above 2000rpm for them to look at, no fault code on diagnostics so they are refering to nissan... would a faulty turbo, maf sensor or fuel pump throw up a fault code?

i am hands on with fixing. but i have not had diesel prior this car and i have no workshop manual.

ok update
garage really scratching there head due no fault code.... the guy there decided to bypass the primer pump???? is this what feeds the fuel pump??? said it work fine with no problrems so £158 for part will update tomorrow, if not then the fuel pump is next... :headbang:
is the petrol model more reliable?

now been told to look at the fuel pump, £1900 :shock: so instead sending it off to a fuel specialist to look at and they should hopefully repair any pump problem at fraction of the cost. my garage is instructed to look at the EGR but i'm not getting black smoke from the exhaust... anyway i'll keep you updated.

any input from anyone???

Touch wood, I haven't had a repeat of the problem. The only thing I get is the car is very slow to fire up when cold. I shall try to get the glow plugs checked.

garage had the car all day egr checked, maf sensor is a little off but not suffcient to cause problems of this sort, so now it has gone to the fuel specialists for the pump check... hopefully get resolved tomorrow.if problems still exists thinking about ECU re-programme, how much does this cost normally??

:thumbs: picked up the car today from the fuel injection specialists after 2 days on there diagnostics machine. fuel pump solenoid valve replaced and EGR completely stripped and cleaned. run for 20 miles tonight engine smoother idling revs better and no power loss... fingers crossed will monitor and see how it goes.

Primer pump unit replaced definite fault
EGR stripped cleaned
MAF tested ok
fuel pump nearly replaced but £1900 too much sent to injection specialists
Solenoid valve on pump replaced
3 hired cars for 10 days off the road
and not a single fault code in site.....

hopefuly last major problem lots of little issues to sort now
