Had my Xtrail a couple of weeks now and am loving her!
My partner has not driven her until today
He had not long left the house when he came back and said the exhaust chucked out a lot of black smoke when he started her up!
IS this something to worry about?
I thought all diesels did it when cold!

I have only had an X Trail since last Friday and it blows a bit of black smoke when I start it. All diesels do. If you cruise for a long time then suddenly accelarate quickly, look in the mirror, and you will see some smoke. That is why they are called "oil burners". I would not worry about it.
