Hi,
new to site so hope you guys can help me. Picking my new Xtrail Adventura 173 up next week and belatedly decided I wanted side bars on it. I was quoted £600 from dealer plus fitting costs. I have seen side bars on websites which look identical for £300. Are they easy to fit and has anyone bought similar non-Nissan parts? Are they worth the money as I feel I am getting ripped off by Nissan dealer.

We have fitted a few to different 4x4's and like everything else if not a OEM item, then more often than not they require a wee tweak to fit but once done look just as good IMO and at half the price .

Thanks for the reply Scottie. I managed to get the dealer down to £450 for the side bars so decided to get them fitted. Still waiting for car as he has had to order side bars. Had a look at car today and it has roof rails with the spot lights fitted. I was a bit surprised as I thought these were additional to the Adventura model. Just keeping my mouth shut in case they have cocked up with the spec. lol! Hopefully I am picking it up on Thursday.

Hi,

This may not be relevant if you have already collected your car with side steps fitted, but may be of use to those who are frugal enough to not want to pay for Dealer fitting, but unsure of their own ability or the difficulty level of this fitment.

I recently (and tentatively) fitted a set of OE steps to my T31 after getting a quote of nearly £200 labour from the Dealer.
I found that though the instructions are not as explanatory as they could be, with a little common sense and a healthy dose of self-belief you can have the job knocked out in about two hours.

The only area which caused me any degree of concern was drilling the two 6mm bracket holes (8 in total), but remembering some of my Father's advise - 'measure twice, drill once' - any mis-drills were avoided (It also helps once the first bracket is on sucessfully) I was then able to speed through the rest of the job with no hesitation or problems.

No specialist tools are required, merely a half decent socket set, a 3mm and a 6mm drill bit and knuckle protection if you dont have access to a set of ramps! (I was able to complete the fitment with relative ease without even using the jack - though it was on standby).

I hope this helps (someone), this is my first X-Trail.. and my first 'productive' visit to this site come to think of it.

Rogerson78, I've just bought my new X-trail and want to fit side bars, my concern is the drilling part. Have you got those photos of exactly where you need to drill ? If I drill in the wrong place will it be vissible ?
