Hi ,
I`ve just purchased a new x trail and have had a factory fit removeable towbar fitted. The towball is painted black and I`m concerned that this paint should be removed before I start towing. Is this correct or am I being over cautious ?

If you are towing an Al-Ko chassis then you are correct and you should remove all the paint from the towball.

I think that you may have posted in the wrong section and that is why you have not received a reply earlier, perhaps a moderator will move you??

Thanks a lot,
I realised I`d put it in the wrong place as soon as I submitted it. Thanks for your help.

I've got a nex x-trail on order for March. The dealer told me they don't do a factory fitted towbar, rather if one is ordered the local towbar specialist fits it while the car is in the compound. He does not have access to th workshop.

Knowing this I decided to ask the local towbar specilaist http://www.hedley-towbars.co.uk/car%20kits.html (Hedleys of Durham) to fit one in their own workshop, as they will have access to shelter, rather than working in the car park or compound. However I thought the price of £247 for detachable tow bar and single electrics felt a bit steep. Especially as there is a credit crunch goin' down in this area at present

Detachable towbars are available on e-bay with fitting instructions. I wonder if the single electrics are straight-forward or if it is too difficult for an average DIYer like myself. If there is a plug supplied in the wiring harness it should be simple. Does anyone know if such a connecting point is suppled? Has anyone fitted their won towbar to a T31?

Any help on this topic much appreciated.
Best wishes to all, Mat
