Hi,
I have a 2005 x-trail with a failing turbo, Nissan has quoted £1600 to replace it. I think their having a laugh. Does anyone know how to take the turbo off as I am thinking of doing it myself and sending it away for a repair?

It is quite possible to do it yourself, and I was considering doing the same. However, after speaking to a decent local independent I was quoted only three hours labour for removal and refitting. Considering that it's quite easy to break a stud, which can then take a while to remove, I was happy to pay for the work to be done.

Ultimately its up to you, but it can turn into a long job...

Also, I was going to get my old turbo reconditioned, but got put off because I was unable toget a definite quote for the work. I was told that it was quite likely the reconditioning work would be as much as a new unit.
