Can anyone advise on the following. After i purchased my X Trail, i noticed that one of the rear brake discs was, lets say, less than smooth. There wasn't any corrosion tough and the brakes are working fine. But the car came to me with 13 months MOT on it and i was wondering if a scored disc surface would be an MOT fail ?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers.
Andy.

Hi Andy
I would'nt think that a scored disc would be an MOT failure. As long as the disc is within its spec, ie it is within its minimum thickness and it isn't warped. A badly scored disc usually happens when the pads have been left to get so thin that they are grinding away at the disc, or something has got in between the pad and disc. A new set of pads will, after a while, re-profile your disc anyway.
Looking at the manual for the X-Trail 2005 diesel, it does'nt give a minimum thickness. New disc on front is 28mm, rear is 16mm. Repair limit thickness on front is 26mm, and rear is 14mm.
Hope this helps
David
