We (the Netherlands) are a small country. Distances are not too long between cities. Therefore I bought a petrol engine driven X-Trail. Diesel is heavy taxed here. No experience or what so ever with Diesel driven X-Trails.

But... I notice one main stream compliant here: lots of problems with Diesel!! Allmost everybody post compliants about the turbo, the intercooler, oil-leaks and so forth.
Does this means that
** This is a bad Diesel
** Cost you more than a lot of money each time
** Gives you anger?
** A reason to never buy one of these again?

It's strange: Nissan is one of the greatest Diesel enigine builders in the world. Is it becouse the X-Trail is build in 6 (!) different countries who are not that preciese as Japs? I'm wondering why Nissan did not solve this problems for once and for all...
For me, this is a reason never buying a X-Trail diesel after all.

Here (In the Netherlands) the manufacturers/dealers/garages reads this kinda posts too. Even customer programms on the tely do. Do not know if they do so at yours. Would be a big impact as we hear here sometimes... They even post solutions at some forums

Only had my XT a couple of months, so I may not be fully qualified to answer, but that's never stopped me before!

I've got very slight sticky goo down the front of the engine block, obviously from the i/c - as I work for a firm with lots of welders (MIG/TIG/you name it) I may bung one of them a fiver to weld up the seams sometime next year when I can take the XT off the road long enough (my other car is a bike, and I'm up to my bits in snow just now).

As for the turbo, like Umbongo I allow the unit to spool down before switching off (last mile home at 30 anyway, so leave it in 4th for that) and I've dropped whatever cheap **** the stealer put in and lobbed in a gallon of Fully Synth 5W/40. I'll probably bring the oil change schedule down to 10,000/annual rather than 12,000 .... coz it's easier to remember 60/70/80/etc rather than 60/72/84 ......

yea like kirriepete have had all changed im using castrol fully synth 5w40 and let the trubo spool down i am especially careful whencoming off motorway into service stations.
all a diesel really needs is clean oil clean air and clean fuel so making sure all filters are changed and you are running fresh clean correct grade oil are the keys to long life
