Is it still ok to use 5w30 oil in a xtrail that has done 185 thousand miles.Garage suggested a thicker one. What say you.Regards Baz
PS Is all 5w30 C4 Oil good for our Xtrails.Baz

You dont need to use C4 rated oil. That is a low ash oil designed for modern vehicles with dpf's and 3 way cats.

It wont hurt if you use it but you wont gain anything and will pay more for it.

Best regards
Milton
Milton .Thank you for the answer.I bought the Nissan oil last year not realising it was C4 Can i do ant damage by using this oil Regards Barry

FULLY synthetic. Do NOT use semi-synthetic or mineral. Again, stick with the C3 specification that the manufacturer demands. You have a choices of viscosity - 5W30, which is what is recommended or 5W40, which is what a lot on here (myself included) use when the engine is a bit worn.
Thank you for the advice.I notice the Nissan 5w30 oil i bought early last year is C4 Low Saps.Is this oil not good for my Xtrail Regards Barry.NO DPF

No, as Milton says, I think it will probably be fine to use, but you can always phone the dealer you bought it from and ask! It's a bit "too good" (so to speak) for your model because you don't have a DPF, but my feeling is that will do no harm. A C4 engine oil WILL be fully synthetic.

In theory, C3 should be slightly better for your X-trail. The difference between C3 and C4 is that C4 is a slightly lower "SAPS" oil (Sulphated Ash, Phosphorous, Sulphur). SAPS are an extreme pressure additive, which also improve lubricity, but may affect emissions. Hence the move to recommending C4 for DPF equipped diesels. However, the difference is slight.

The changes in ACEA C4 specification since first introduction addressed and improved the potential issue of (slightly) increased wear over C3.

I’m with Avocet and think that it will probably be fine to use in your T30. If in doubt, ask someone with no vested interest in selling you higher cost oil.

May i thank you all for helping with the oil problem.I have been told by OPIE OILS That i can use the 5w30 fully synthetic C3 and C4 Low Saps oil in my Xtrail which does NOT have a DPF.I was Bit dubious at first,,,,but after all your help and advice it seems i can now go ahead and do the oil change with the oil i have.Thank You All Again Regards Barry
