I changed the neaside front drive shaft recently and needed to replace the transaxle oil at the same. I got 'comma' branded 75w-90 gl-4 which is the grade it calls for in the workshop manual.
Job done, all good, no leakages etc.. went to work the next morning and she didnt want to engage 6th gear but once she got up to temp was grand.
It's a common occurence now and 5th is starting to do the same...I've ordered a couple of litres of castrol transaxle 75w-90 as it's been recommended by a few different sources.

Will provide an update once it's changed again but please..if anyone thinks they have another idea please let me know :)

I have recently had all the oils replaced in my 2005 2.2 dCi X-Trail.

I used the following: CASTROL SYNTRANS MULTIVEHICLE 75W90 - 1

I have not had any issues in selecting 5th or 6th even before the engine is fully warmed up although the gearbox would most probably warm up quicker than the engine. However, what will happen when the weather eventually gets colder during the winter I don't know.

As Umbongo and others have posted, the change from 1st to 2nd tends to be better if you don't rush it, it is certainly not as slick as the majority of other cars. It is also something that you eventually get used to and adapt your driving accordingly.

I would tend to double clutch 1st into 2nd as a matter of habit so haven't noticed any low gear issue.
I tried the double a few times with 5 and 6 but no change.
Before Umbongos reply I had already ordered the castrol multivehicle so I'll give it a shot.
Thanks for the replies guys.
