Noticed a whistle coming from the engine yesterday so looked it up online. Pointed to a turbo issue so managed to get it booked in at local dealers this morning. Turns out 2 bearings have gone in the turbo so advised not to drive it. I've done 26600 mile in 3yrs 5 months, it's out of warranty. Has anybody had any dealings with Nissan out of warranty issues on a major fault. I'm waiting for the dealer to speak to me as I've just had the video call from a technician. Any advice on how to attack it if they wont accept any fault

My own x-trail warranty expires end of next month. I am dreading this problem so much that i am actually considering getting rid asap after lockdown.
I have heard it is an expensive job if fixed by Nissan but can be a lot cheaper if done by non Nissan.
You would like to think that Nissan will contribute in some way especially if you have full service history.
Please keep me posted on the outcome as it may directly affect me in next few months.

My turbo went, but under warranty. This must be a systemic issue there are so many examples of it on this forum. The dealer told me it would have cost about £1000 if I’d have had to pay.

Update; Dealership phoned me on Friday to say that Nissan had offered to pay for the parts but wanted me to pay the labour, £1000.09p! Told them I wasn't happy with this and he agreed and said that he'd already drafted a response to their customer services department asking for full cover of the cost to replace the turbo. Expecting a call on Tues/ Wed, Watch this space.

I would collect all the examples you can find of the same problem on this forum and use it to argue it’s a known issue.

It's a big worry. My warranty expires next month and not happy that I could find myself in this situation soon.
M 2017 T32 has now done 33k. has anyone got any best guesses as to how many this problem affects 1 in 100, 1 in 50 or less?
I'm watching russp66's situation to see how he comes out of it. At least with parts covered it does make the bill slightly more bearable but still an awful lot.
If he has to pay anything i will seriously be looking at trading it in for something else.

£1000 just for labour? That suggests a full working day just to change a turbo? What are their hourly rates?

Do any of you let the engine idle for 10 seconds before switching off

In the older days,it was in the user manual that let the turbo spool down a few seconds before cutti g the engine. Even longer when the engine was under load. Ie roadside stops.
