Hi - I have starting problems on a 2006 Aventura. Now checking & replacing as necessary, starting from the back. Expect to renew external fuel pump & filter at least.

Hit unexpected snag. Examined the fuel sensor assembly as I was unsure if any components there could be a problem. They weren't. but they are now.

One of the large rings that hold the assembly to the fuel tank will not screw right down, & fuel is leaking from it. I've checked it again & again, & I can see no swarf or dirt in the way anywhere. The threads look fine in the plastic, but I can't check the thread on the tank. It feels cross-threaded, but that should be close to impossible with such a coarse thread, I can see no other damage.

The manual states the large butyl seals into which the sensor units fit should be replaced every time. I suspect one has distended. I can't find a source for a new one. Part no. #17342 79900. Has anyone else found one recently?

Could I pack the old one with some silicon or other sealant, or will the diesel eat it alive?

Truck now incapacitated so any bright ideas very welcome ......

Search for 17342-79900 some on Ebay. The retaining rings are easy to cross thread.

Rub some silicone grease or spray ect on the plastic thread first and see if it will tighten down easier .If your Xtrail is a diesel, the pump under the tank is just a fuel transfer pump from one side of the tank to the other it, it doesn't pump fuel to the front of the vehicle .

Tx for replies.

Sorted. WD40, a lot more downward pressure, & another hour got it re-assembled. Must stop ebing curious ....

BTW, if anyone needs that seal it's hard to find in the UK under £30+ each. I did order 2 from Hong Kong on eBay at less than £10 total, inc delivery. They'll sit on the shelf until the next time ....
