Yes that will be the intercooler gone .It's the usual spot where they go on the dci Xtrail . Also the rubber pipe below can go hard over the years too so doesn't seal too well when old .You could always find some new pipe the same size and sort that while your at it .I had to do my intercooler on my old T30 too so fitted the uprated welded type and also found a new rubber pipe and sealed a lot better . If you had pressure washed all that off just before the MOT it would have passed

Thanks Leafy.
I will see what size the pipe is, and fit a Silicone hose. I think it will deal with the environment better.
I have found a welded type intercooler in the online parts stores over here, so will order one of those. Looks like an easy job to do.
I just need to find an decent degreaser, although a couple of cans of brake cleaner will probably fo a good job.

It only failed on this, a track rod end, and a tyre worn on the inside shoulder, probably due to the track rod end...

Make sure you get the right intercooler as they changed in 05 too ....pretty sure it was around Sept 05 so if yours is registered after this then you will need the later one as top intercooler pipe is set at a slightly different angle and will not fit as it should (Some places know this and some don't and make out they will fit all the dci 's).I have a steam cleaner for any work I need to do but have used washing up liquid in warm water and brushed in on a warm engine to clean .Yes the track rod ends being worn won't help with tyre wear ,they eat through them on the Xtrail

Anyone fitted a Nissens 96407?
It looks to have a soldered core, rather than crimped.

I am not sure that will fit.
My x-trail is a 2.2DCi, 4x4, first registered in 04/2005, so I guess I need the earlier model.

Where can I find what part number is fitted to my car?

This is the earlier replacement ...

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Upgraded-62m ... 890.l49292

And this is the latter ...

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UPGRADED-ALU ... 890.l49292

This seller ships to France. Both items are welded. The main difference is the core size, which is shown in the listings.

Thanks.
Seems to be the same part as other listed on e-bay. I am keen to buy in Europe as I don't want to pay VAT twice...

Looking at a Dasis 077009N.
I cannot see if it is of a welded construction though. Does anybody know?

It is the same as other parts listed on Ebay. I provided links to this seller as they have both versions available, and also because I bought mine off them. I would rather pay 20% VAT on an item costing £90, than pay around £180 including VAT once.

It is difficult to see from images available. Maybe ask the manufacturer.
