I used our trailer for the first time in ages on sat and noticed that the alu socket on the car is corroded but thought nothing of. I had done about 12/13 miles when the car died ( still running but no power and would not rev over 2000) so pulled over and turned off and back on again which cured it. did another mile or so and did it again so decided to unhook the electrics as only had a few miles to go antill home. seemed fine. went out later that day and it did it again :frown: and it did it again to my wife a few days later too. please help, dont really want to take it too the stealers if there is a quick fix.

Thanks

tim

Hi timoth27,what model/year/mileage/petrol/diesel have you got?Does it do it without the trailer on.If diesel and the fuel filter hasn't been changed recently,I'd start there.

i dont see what would cause the car to go into limp mode, if it was the socket short circuiting then im sure it would fuse the lights or make the lights go funny, theres nothing in the t30 electrics that could cause that problem. try taking the car solo for a run and see if it happens then.
maybe its the weight thats causing something in the car itself is it a heavy trailer??? try load the car up and try go for a run see if it does the same?
Let us know what happens.

There's been a few threads on this problem, check out the one below but there are also others if you scroll through the T30 Problem/Bugs page.

Sounds like the Fuel Pressure Regulator issue again, try taking it in to a garage with a diagnostic machine, if the fault code P0089 comes up this should confirm it.

im quite sure you can rule out the trailer causing the problems then, but a garage should be able to get the code from the log, keep us posted.

Trailer probably just put a bit more load on the engine than usual which tends to show up any marginal faults which don't show up under normal driving.

Take it to a fuel pump specialist (thats what your Nissan dealer will do anyway!)

When I had the same limp home problem it was diagnosed as a fuel pressure regulator fault (P0089), Nissan replaced the regulator but it did not fix the problem! They then removed the whole pump and sent it away to a specialist who found the fault to be down to a stiff pump and the fuel pressure regulator (even though it was new!)
They changed the regulator (again) and loosened the pump and returned it to Nissan who fitted it all back to the car, problem cured.

End of story, well not quite, Nissan refused to accept the regulator they fitted was faulty and to prove it they removed the regulator (yet again) and refitted their original part, saying I would not have to pay their labour charge if the fault returned, which it didn't so I ended up paying them, but it still worked out a lot cheaper than a new pump.

So in short, my limp home fault was a combination of a stiff fuel pump and the pressure regulator valve and if it hadn't gone to a specialist I could have ended up paying the Nissan Dealer a lot more.
