Hello Anyone out there recommend any method of repairing alloy wheels, mine are starting to bubble at the spoke edges.

Any advise welcome.

If you want to do it yourself then buy some wet or dry paper various grades, etching primer, too coat paint of your colour choice and laquer. Rub down the alloys with a light power sander. Finish off by sanding down with progressive finer wet or dry. Wipe wheel all over with thinners or similar to prepare the wheel for spraying. Mask of the valve and Tyre (if you are doing it with them in place). Spray etching primer on, when dry do two top coats, when dry do one laquer. A proper job would be to take the three and valves out and spray the lot.

Alternatively, get them refurbished at a wheel specialist for between £40 and £70 each.

Assuming the wheels are still round (especially the inside edges) and the gouges are small, you could just clean out the gouges and fill them with bodyfiller before priming and painting as Milton suggests. You do, however, get a much better job with a proper re-furb. Some places powder coat them, rather than paint them. Any internet search for "Allow Wheel Refurbishment" should come up with plenty of hits in your area.

i can personally recommend Aerocoat , had most of my bike bits done by them and they do a lovely Chromax finish for wheels

I had my alloys refurbished two years ago by a specialist engineer near me in Cumbria - there will probably be a company local to you... Best three hundred pounds that I have spent on the car - still look good (when clean) I felt my alloys were letting down the appearance of the car. All covered, with photographs, in this thread...

As I mentioned in my posts, I use Rimwax on the finished alloys - applied twice a year - seems to keep them cleaner. Also used on my wife's car's alloys - with still enough left in the jar for this year.

In the US of A alloys are called 'rims' - does that mean that if they get them refurbished they tell everyone they just got a r!mj0b??

Not only that Eoin, but johns got some wax to keep your rim clean

During wintertime, vascular helps very good against salt... After wintertime you can get it off with soap.
