Sticking brake calipers is one of the biggest problems.

No cambelt its a chain

There are loads of posts on here relating to buying an xtrail, just put your query in the search engine.

Basic ones are...
Full or good documented service history
Brakes can bind due to calipers seized, slider pins etc
Listen for turbo whistle
Check for oil leaking from front left elbow on inter cooler (looking from front of car)
Hand brake does not always hold well
On test drive listen for rattles and knocking from suspension, drop links and anti roll bushes prone to wear.
Make sure all the electrical things work

Other than that, does the car look like its been well looked after and does feel right. If not walk away.

I am sure other members will give additional advice for you to consider as well.
