My sister is wondering about getting one. Not a "proper" Mini Cooper, one of these new impostors from BMW. She isn't looking to spend much, so it will be an early one. Any good? (compared to other £2k cars, that is)!

Based on the link I would stay well clear. A list of faults as long as your arm

Plenty of decent small hatches to be had that seat 5 people, not 4 like the mini.

If it was me, I would say a VW Polo or Skoda Fabia. Both will hold there money pretty well & should   be pretty reliable.

Rappy

Have to say, the Mini wouldn't be my choice either, Rappy...but whatever floats yer boat I guess.
I quite liked the Mini...until I got in one...very cramped I thought.
As you say, I think there are better cars out there but if it's Mini you really want..then a Mini you should have I reckon.

x2

A friend had a Mini Cooper S when they first came out. It spent more time off the road than on. I think they have improved now, but my money would be else where.

If you're looking for a good small car you'll not go far wrong with a ford focus . We had one for 9 years with no problems, great to drive and more practical than a mini.
