I've been working under my 2003 T30 for a few weekends giving her a 45mm lift, there was minimal surface rust, that is expected underneath. When removing each leg there was some very light spots of surface rust on the underside of the turret mount that you would never see unless you are removing your legs. Treated those with Jenolite and thats them sorted for life. Highly recommend that product works a treat on any light surface rust and converts it for a long time.
Maybe the x-trails have missed this chassis rust issue.
