Is there a way to tell if the coolant in the motor already is IAT or OAT?

I know that colour cannot be trusted as Nissan dyes their OAT green

My T31 M9R needs topping up and I know it should be OAT like Comma G30 and what is in there now is Green'ish and I don't want to do a full flush yet, so...

Answers on the back of a tenner please

K ;-)

I'd be amazed if it wasn't OAT. Our T30 is OAT and the T31 is a more recent vehicle. Handbook, maybe? Or go on to a few online parts suppliers like Eurocarparts, or Halfords and stick your registration number in and shop for antifreeze. See what comes up.

Thanks mate, I know what should be in already but before I top up I wanted to ensure it is actually OAT in there now. Only way to be sure at the moment is to flush out and refill, unless theres a way to check it actually is OAT so I can just add more...

mines red,

So yours is likely to be OAT and OK

problem is my car with service stamps but no service sheets nor receipts so I cant tell what was last added and when :frown:

Looks like I am staring at a replacement coolant job soon

If your not draining it use Prestone for topping up it can be mixed with any coolant.

You could also just add a bit of distilled water. You would only be adding a few ounces and would not be messing the coolant mix a whole lot. That would remove any possibility of adding an incompatible fluid.
FYI I have used Prestone in my T30 for the past 7 years without any issue and I have not had to replace anything with regards to the cooling system on my 2006 so far.

Thanks Umbongo, good tip

And thanks Quadraria, simple but effective solution I overlooked duh!

I think between your two suggestions you have bought me some time until I plan to do a full coolant change...( as also suggested above for new purchases) Probably October before weather gets too bad.

Thanks Chaps
