Didn't think you were allowed to remove the EGR for the emissions on the MOT here. Be glad to hear if this is not the case. Touch wood, I have never had any issues with it :fingers crossed:

Cheers

The EGR has never actually been a problem. The tune was done 2 years ago now and some 25k miles and light only been on twice in that time and it seems to be a sensor and not the EGR. yes it would be MOT failure if it was missing /blanked off.

On my Volvo V70 removing a small vacuum pipe stopped the EGR valve working, so I just used to remove it and plug the end. At MOT time I just unplugged it and put the pipe back.

If you know how Egr and Mot testing works, then you know that EGR is open when cruising on steady gas. MOT on diesel engines it is measured how much the machine can see thru the smoke on accelerations. And on heavy accelerations, the EGR valve has to be closed.
The ECM has drive cicle monitors like on petrol cars has O2 sensor and EVAP monitors, some also egr monitors, diesels have EGR monitors and it is checked via obd2 dongle. Is the readiness monitor completed or not.
So it is pretty hard to guess is the egr programmed out or not.
Of corse, when the inspector looks at the Egr pipes and sees a home made ugly blanking plate.

When you did the tune, why did'nt you program the EGR out. I Asked to do it on mine and even bought a stainless steel blanking plate. No EGR problems. and no lights. The OBD2 monitor says EGR test passed. but i know it does not work.

I did remove the whole EGR assembly to clean it for mainteance before the tune.
Out of curiosity, how long did it take you to do that ?

To do the tune, or take the egr off?

Fist time it was like 15-25 minutes to take it off. The pipe from the turbocharger has to be removed to get to the nuts and bolts.
