We have a lot of thieves stealing these things so does anyone know where we can get a anti theft device
that will maybe prevent or stop this happening
We have a T31 Tekna 2012

The only way I can see is to park the car in a way to hamper anyone getting under it .Most thieves will carry a trolley jack and use a cordless grinder and cordless recip saw ,so will lift anything up with the jack if low down and cut through anything if a guard of some sort was in the way on the cat .

The only way to stop it is to catch them in the act and lower the jack on them whilst they are underneath, then call the police.

Thanks, unfortunately we are a bit too long in the tooth for any physical activity but we have installed
Security lightiing and a camera so hopefully this will be a deterrent

What sort of area is this happening in? I would have thought that anyone using power tools such as a reciprocating saw or an angle grinder would make quite a racket. Where I live it might not attract much attention in the middle of the day, as people would just think it was someone working on a car, but at night it would have half the road out to complain about the noise.

This was reported on Central news and the actual theft was filmed by a neighbour who went to intervene
but was threatened by a thug with a baseball bat, it was dark but the security light lit up the scene and the
getaway in all it took just over one minute
This took place in a well populated area, the car that was attacked was a smaller vehicle, apparently there is
a big market for the valuable metals inside them

Hello janrobbo and other contributors to this thread,

I wondered if you would be interested in my thread that I posted some years ago when I actually witnessed on my Home`s CCTV someone getting underneath my X-Trail obviously to steal the catalytic converter.

There are screenshots from my CCTV of the person who I believe was a small young oriental woman - I shouted out to her to get out from under my car and from her voice stating that she had `dropped her bag under your car` I could tell that - I mention this because I found out later that there was an `oriental gang` roaming the streets of South East London cutting off catalytic converters - usually from much newer cars than mine.

Here is a link to that thread - there are quite a few posts but the CCTV screenshot photos are on one of my replies on page 2:

https://www.x-trail-uk.co.uk/viewtopic. ... 6&start=10

I hope that none of our Members get their X-Trail Catalytic Converters stolen.

Regards, Chris

I know that every one not from the Eastern Europe has not experienced the Soviet uninon, where for everything was a shortage. Clothes, car related stuff. Even windshield whippers. Car owners often took them off for the night, because there where none to buy and other car owners steal them.
Nothing new under the sun. Cats inside for the nights.
