Hi!
I'm new, and haven't bought my X-Trail yet. Off to Blackpool soon to see one (from Derby!!)
Anyway, Help please. The car I'm off to look at only has one key, and I was wondering if the same tweek was possible as is used in Volvos. The sensor is embedded in the key rubber, and people prise it out and glue it on the inside of the cowling near the ignition, so you only need a plain (and therefore cheaper) key to use the ignition etc. Clever eh? Possible? Necessary? (It's a 2004 model)

It's been done, but if you lose it or damage it you won't be able to start it. You would be better off negotiating a discount and getting a second key.
As above, just relying on the one glued 'remobiliser' key strikes me as an 'eggs in one basket' option.

The key circuit board has two separately coded functions.

1) Door lock and alarm (commonly easily programmed, I believe)

2) Immobiliser (until recently only programmable by a nissan approved facility using the system supplied by them).

If you glue your current fob board, you will still need to source a pair of additional fobs and get some key programming done for the doors / alarm .

I did read somewhere that the immobiliser programming function is now also undertaken by someone like Timpsons, but I can't remember where I read it.

If this is the case, I guess it is a lot cheaper that the multiple- hundred pound keyfob I got direct from Nissan a few years back!

Anyway, just experimented, and for what it's worth, i can confirm that even if you have a key in the ignition, you can still lock and unlock the car using a separate fob ( if that is of any interest to you).

Sounds sensible. OK thank you for that I'll refrain from bastardising my keys in persuit of a better method. Timpsons here I come!
