After my 07 got written off I’ve been driving a Honda CRV. After getting a little bit of ppi back I have enough to look at another Xtrail. Can only afford the late 07 or 08 newer shape. Please tell me what to look for and what to avoid. I dearly loved my 07 manual except for the rattley timing chain. Is this fixed in the newer version? I also would like an automatic unless you guys tell me to avoid em. Thanks in hope of some advice. Paul

The 2.2 diesel was amazing. How does the newer 2.00 diesel measure up?

Can't help you on that engine but mine is a 2011 facelift 2.0 dci but being the last engine I believe they did a few modifcations over the 08 engines to give better fuel economy etc and I must admit even when cold it is really quiet - quietest diesel I've ever had and at 167K miles

The 2.2 is Nissan engine, the 2.0 is from Renault.
The T31 is more refined, is 25cm longer has more room. Front wishbones are a lot cheaper.
The dials are in front of you.
2007-2011 has 2.0 and 2.5 petrol, manual or cvt, also 2.0 Diesel manual or regular auto.
2011-2014 facelift is a bit more economical, only the 2.0 diesel, manual or auto.

Well I really like my 2008 diesel auto. Great car. Runs well, pulls my caravan a treat.

Thanks guys. I think I'm set on a diesel auto and there's a 08 quite near. The rattly timing chain was an issue on my 07, has this been fixed?

Just had another look and it's a 57 with 114000 @ £3500. Good buy?

Mine's a 57 plate too. That one has 1,000 miles more on it than mine, and it's about £500 cheaper so I'd say well worth a look. Haven't noticed any timing-chain noise on mine.

I originally bought my 07 because it had a chain instead of a belt but I found out later that many people had trouble with noisy timing chains. Does the Renault 2.0 diesel have a chain or a belt?

M9R 2.0 DCi is chain driven. Don't usually make excessive noise, but do fail with catastrophic consequences. Should be changed before 100k.
