Hi, this is my first post here, I have just acquired a 2011 2.0dci 173 Acenta. I intend to fit a towbar, I am planning to fit 13 pin dedicated electrics although most of what I will be towing will be 7 pin. Has any one any experience of using a 13 to 7 pin adapter?

13 is MOT tested, 7 is not,

13 is very tacky ( smaller pins ), 7 is stronger,

I would fit 2 x 7 pins, ( mine is )

the 2x7 to 13 adapter is more reliable and easily replaced if faulty,

Thank you, that is exactly what I require. I have heard horror stories about conventional wiring kits interfering with modern electronics, are there any issues with the Xtrail or can I just splice in a non specific double kit? Sorry for all the questions but my experience of fitting towbars are a few years out of date!

I have fitted a TEB7AS,
http://www.towsure.com/smart-7-way-mult ... Gwodi40CSw

The fuses for Brake, sidelight and winkers are under the bonnet, under the
air intake pipe, so any fault on the trailer will blow them,

its a hard job in the dark and rain to replace these to then run the xtrail,

this unit trips till the trailer plug is removed and resets itself, no fuse blows,

the wiring to connect unit to is inside car behind the left sidelight . indicator,
and can be reached by pulling the inner cover from the body, then jam with
a block of wood to hold it open,

the plug is hard to find but is taped into the existing wiring

with a brown plug, I cut this off and chock blocked the TEB7AS to it,

the wiring is available on here, if you cannot find it, come back,

Thanks for the fast and informative reply. I've seen reference to fitting a bypass relay in other posts but wasn't sure what it was, now I know. I think I'm going to like this forum!
