Updating sat nav

I am desperately trying to work out how I can update the maps on my wifes 2011 X Trail so I can add it to her Christmas presents.
There is no sign of map discs with the car or a dedicated disc reader unlike our previous T30 which had the reader in the glovebox.
The system is a Bose system with music box.
Any help would be very welcome

Which model radio. Mine takes SD card. Got 2019 version sd card.

Not sure which model radio it has , just know it is according to what I can see in the navigation owners manual type B?
It has Bose badges on the speakers but I can't see much sign of amps under the seat or much in the way of extra speakers.
There is no sign on the central audio controls of a USB either.
It is a 2011 Tekna but not sure that will be of help.

I have a 2011 Facelift Tekna and the Sat Nav discs go into the CD slot just below screen.

The most recent maps you can get are end of 2016 and cost around £100 direct from Nissan/HERE maps.

I did the update and it also updates firmware allowing full postcode searches as well.

Hi Jim,
Do you happen to know if that would work with my early 2008 model? I could use postcode searches, which I can't do at present. I think my CD unit is in the glove-box, but I haven't looked yet.

Thanks for that Norfolk Jim, I think that the system is the Xanavi 9 according to what I have read as that is for the hard drive system.
I have found some updated maps online for much less than Nissan want. Going to take a punt on one of them and see how it works out.

I don't think anymore updates are available for the x7 system. :bigcry:

Yes Pete that's correct but I not sure if the maps available elsewhere do the firmware update to allow postcode searches which are useful. I haven't found too many differences with road layouts but it was fun coming down the brand new section of A14 near Cambridge on Wed. It's only just opened and is wonderful new long section of dual/triple lane road. Car sat nav showed me in fields which is fine - might be able to get across them but Waze already showed it all. Must admit I tend to use Waze 90% of the time as very quickly updated if hold ups/accidents but only when signal.

Hi Bus-man - no sorry it won't work in a 2008 model.

Thanks Jim & Ken. It appears you are right, and the latest update for mine is 2013. I may even have that already, I haven't checked. If not, Nissan want £149 plus postage, but there is a version available from digital-media-uk on ebay for a much more reasonable £8.99 with free postage. I'll have to take a look at what I already have, and if it's the original disk I will probably order the £8.99 version off ebay. I don't see any point in paying over £150 for a version that is already 6 years out of date! I bet they don't sell many at that price!

I've never had any dealings with sat-navs before, so I presume if I take the old disk out and the new one doesn't work properly, I can still put the original back in? At least £8.99 isn't much to lose if it's no good.

Anyone used one of these after-market disks off ebay?

I have ordered a 2013 map update online , couldn't find any that were more recent than that but will still be a better option than the original map fitted to ours, Bus Man, I would think the seller offering the £8.99 version you have ordered would have very poor feedback if they did not work, did you take a look at his ratings? I will keep you posted on the install when mine arrives.

I haven't actually ordered it yet as I haven't had time to look at what I already have. It may already be the 2013 version, as all I know is that it is not up to date.

I have indeed looked at the seller's ratings and they are good, so I would think he is a pretty safe bet for it working well. I'm just surprised at the price Nissan want for a 6 years out-of-date disk. I would have thought they would be giving them away by now.

From our experience, Nissan give you nothing including good customer service, I drive a Volvo who are poor but Nissan take the biscuit!
I wish I could find updated discs for ours for £8.99!
I had a Volvo V70, and I never took that to a main dealer. I knew an independent Volvo specialist who looked after it for me. I'm not sure where my nearest Nissan main dealer is, but then I don't usually have any dealings with main dealers. Only independent garages.

I'm not sure what disk would fit your car, but I know the one I found on ebay was for version X7, but they also do one for version X6 if that is any help. That one is £9.99. Neither version is exactly up-to-date, but they do both go to 2013. I might have been wiling to pay Nissan's price for a 2019 update, but I now know that there isn't one. I certainly wouldn't pay any more than £10 for one that was 6 years out-of-date.

Not been here for a while - sorry.

The latest X7 discs are definitely the 2013 maps. I would never buy a Nissan again if they stop map updates only 4-years after I bought it. :headbang:

The T31 is an excellent vehicle, the T32 is downgraded to a crossover and the Škoda Kodiak is better - although I am drooling over the new Land Rover Defender; but that is way over budget unless I wil the lottery.

But my 2009 X-Trail is stilol going strong - despite ateh €2,500 brteakdown on the Autobahn in Germany last year. :bigcry:

But still virtually no rust after almost 11 years and 0ver 140,000 miles of dribing.

My 2008 X Trail has no noticeable rust either, and its now done 112, 000 miles. I did update the sat-nav using the £8.99 disk off ebay and it seems to work fine. It will certainly do me anyway. I've never had a vehicle with sat-nav before, and I know my way around much of England anyway as I drove for many years for a living. It's normally the last 3 miles to my destination that I am likely to need help with, and road layouts in both rural and urban areas don't tend to change that much even if the main roads do.

Mine are 2016 maps and I see they've now done a new set which appear to be 2018 I think but then mine is different to yours John.

Mine now has 173k on clock and runs like a dream - few marks here and there on body and that annoying small rust patch under edge of chrome trim across the tailgate. Not getting any bigger but still annoying and pain to fix. Apart from that rust free :)

Sounds good john, unfortunately with the current circumstances I'm trying to save as much £ as possible at the mo so it'll be diy for me.
Understood - COVID-19 has affected our industry very badly - so many sound engineers (mostly freelance) have very little work at the moment.

But the X-Trail (T30 and T31 - NOT T32) is an excellent vehicle for people in out business - and teh T32 is the "last good Nissan" as an independent garage once told me and, if it has no (or very little) rust - don't sell it!

Same here I'm afraid despite being resprayed twice by Nissan (their contractor) who didn't treat the rust. :headbang:

When the weather bucks up I'm going to have to do it myself and treat with Jenolite. https://jenolite.com/
Ken, if you have not done this job yet I use this it is used in the motor trade and have had good results.
