Hi all - I was cleaning up the rear brakes last week and noticed the discs were looking rusty. TBH I had noticed the discs befiore, but due to the weather and other commitments, I never got round to doing anything about them!

Anyway, I saw this video on Youtube where he painted it to assist with rust-proofing it, and to make it look a bit neater, and thought I'd give it a go.

Here's the disc, once I had a bit of a scrub with the wire brush

Just your normal sort of corrosion and I taped off the braking surface and sprayed 'stove paint' around the hub

and once it was dried, this is what it turned out like

Much nicer, I think you'll agree ;-)

I also gave the calipers a bit of a blast so, hopefully, this will help keep the brakes looking and performing well

Cheers

Looks good!

I did ours when i got it a few years back, only lasted a month before it came back. Id prepped and used metal paint (brush) too.

Thanks guys! I'll keep everyone updated on how long it lasts - finger's crossed it'll still be there when I next clean up the brakes before the winter comes. ;-)

Cheers

I painted my discs and my calipers with silver Hammerite (smooth version).
You don't need any preparation other than wire brushing off loose rust.
Spray paint is far too thin, you need a brush on paint and Hammerite with its rush proofing qualities is great.
Mine have already been done for over a year including an Irish winter and are lasting fine.
