A quick Google tells me that they're not over-blessed with reviews.

Personally, I would always spend as much as I could (without merely buying a label/brand) on the only thing keeping my vehicle in contact with the road, albeit, we know that the 215 55 18 is a v.tricky size to source.

If you're concerned about the cost of running a 'separate' Winter tyre/wheel set - might it make more sense to just go with some nice chunky ATRs for year round capability? Plenty of recommendation elsewhere around here - The General Grabbers, Yoko G012s (I'm running these), Pirelli Scorpions, etc - are all excellent choices.

i agree, saving a few pounds is always welcomed, but tyres should always be the best you can afford!

I went for the Nokian winter tyres recommended on here over a year ago.

In fact I left them on all year.

So, after about 14 months and 20,000 miles they still have over half the tread left - 6mm / 5mm and are good for many more miles.

Yep - If I were looking specifically for a winter tarmac tyre, then it appears the Nokians are the ones to beat.

In my working life I spent many years with a major petrochemical firm. Our elastomer division made synthetic rubber for all the tyre manufacturers in the world.

Lets just say that the customers with the most demanding quality standards were the International brands everyone knows, a lot more demanding than some rather well less known ones!

Don't forget your only contact with the road is a small bit of rubber on four corners.

As in everything in life, in my experience, you get what you pay for.

Hi

I have fitted Zeetex Vigor A/T for the past couple of years, brilliant tyres in winter. As ex-fire & 4x4 trained these tyres did the job. Having driven Disco, Super Gs, Patrols, was surprised by the capability of the X-Trail I purchased (T30). Outstanding handling with the right tyres when on low friction surfaces, brilliant gearbox. Would say it outshine the Disco based on the fact I got to places the Disco couldn't.

This year have fitted Insa Turbo Rangers (Zeetexs still had 5mm), full set just £285. I suppose you need to decide on the tyre based on the expected use. I also tend to change my tyres at min of 4mm.

X-Trail Convert

P.S - I buy from TyreTraders, great service and prices, fitted at home or local garage.
