Hi Folks, would anyone know what is the biggest tyre i can fit without mods ?? i currently run 215/60/17 but have been looking at 265/70/17 ?? i dont think i will have any problem with the wall depth but its the width im unsure of, what are you running ??

It would be a first! Your current overall wheel diametre is 690mm, while the 265/70/17 would be an 804mm overall diametre. Thats an increase of 114mm overall diametre which means that you will need a 57mm clearance just to allow the wheel to fit in the space and its very compact in there. I dont believe its possible. It would also significantly reduce torque, eat more fuel, and throw your speedo out by 16 percent.

I too am in the same position and have been doing a fair bit of research. I have factory 225/60/17 tyres on my xtrail and have been tossing and turning over fitting 225/65/17 which will give the car a 23mm lift off the ground and clearance should be ok! Check the aus forums for 'oversized tyres', lots of people ranting on about the max tyre size. Anything arger would require as a minimum, a lift kit.

I would highly advise using a tyre size comparable tool to assist you in working out what tyres will fit.

Don't forget to inform your insurer before changing tyre sizes too... If you haven't, and you claim, then it's a right b#gger to then discover that you aren't actually covered... :evil::?

I have just had 2 new tyres fitted from nissan, continentals and they fitted 215 60 17, who has the wrong size on ??

215's are the original fit
