Hi strikeeagle, just use the 4w lock when you are stuck, auto should cope with the majority of situations,i had to put mine in lock this week, that was on an icy road covered in very thick snow

Auto was perfect for me in the January snow and I only put it into lock a very few times while driving away on ice - just to be sure.

Have not had enough snow this autumn yet to test it much - it all seems to be either North or South of us and Oxfordshire has been reasonably OK - so far.....
