I could cry, just had the bank holiday weekend ruined by my X-Trail.

Set off for the coast with full car and caravan attached. Half an hour from home MIL comes on, a few mins later a second MIL comes on - they are the same symbol and the engine loses all power, just slow no turbo 3k rpm max. Great. So I pull over and turn off, wait a bit and start again, one MIL this time and engine revs ok. Set off again and 20 mins later same thing happens, second MIL and loss of power, which is a bit difficult if you're towing a caravan. So I decided we would have to go back home again to get this sorted.

I called out RAC. When he arrived the MIL light had gone out. He put his laptop on the OBD port. Two codes in there. A P code for Cruise control intermittent and a "012B Unknown" code. RAC said that he didn't know what this was and I'd need to go to main dealer to find out as it was likely Nissan specific. He looked over the engine bay and couldn't see anything. He ran the engine and watched some variables such as Soot filter etc

Car was serviced at main dealer a couple of weeks ago.

Anyone got any ideas? If I can get this fixed in the morning we might at least be able to enjoy some of the weekend.

Thanks!

Hi,

Could be a few reasons for it going into limp mode - I'm sure the RAC checked all of the obvious stuff, like fuel filter etc. Without the code, it's a guess - you'd really need to get that. A guess would be a failed DPF regen which may be blocked.

Kind Regards,

Eoin

An update for you guys. Took it to the dealer this morning. The error was a turbo inlet pressure sensor warning. They took it for a drive. Turns out the turbo inlet hose has a small split in it on the underside. See picture! I have gaffa taped it up for now. Needs replacing. Will do that next week when we are back home. All these manufacturer specific fault codes make it really difficult to get things fixed without going to a main dealer :(

Hi,

Glad you found out what the issue was. Did you get the code?

Kind Regards,

Eoin

Hi,

Thanks for that - I had a look for that code but I didn't see it in the ESM, so assumed it was a generic code returned by the OBDII reader.

Kind Regards,

Eoin

Hi
Glad you sorted you problem,
However It's a bit of a concern that the turbo pipe has split on a three year old car! How many miles have you done? Because I also have a 2012 auto with 13000 miles it looks like I'll have to keep a look out.
Good luck

Mine has done 57000 miles, a lot of it is towing. Just something to check if you do get a MIL at some point. It is a weak spot.

The replacement part is apparently £54 from a main dealer. £140 including labour. Two jubilee clips? Guess which I will be doing.

You can get a silicone hose for approx the same or less (depends on size) - try Gareth from DphSport at http://www.derbyperformancehose.co.uk/d ... -hose.html or the E Bay: http://stores.ebay.ie/dphsiliconehose?_ ... 7675.l2563

Yes, dont byt OEM weak and flexible rubber hose. Buy silicone hose (cheaper, stronger, does not expand under pressure).
