Fortunately, you can now get the sensors inexpensively. The drag is diagnosing which one is bad, which requires a more sophisticated scan tool than most of us possess. Not very difficult to change yourself.

Its a bit of an investment, but you could get something like this

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Autel-Diaglink ... reader+abs

According to answers in the questions section it can read the abs codes for the X trail. That will tell you the bad sensor, and those you can find for less than $40 cdn.

Here are a bunch on amazon
https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_no ... abs+sensor

you also have the option of buying a set of all four and just changing them all. Should not cost you more than a 100 pounds at a mechanic, and that only because one of the single bolts that hold each one might be difficult to remove because of rust and age.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/trail-Xtrail-T ... abs+sensor

Thems my suggestions to beat the stealership price.

Do the simple things first.Look at the sensors and the wiring and the ABS ring as they can corrode and split .Its the ideal spot to get mucky so clean the rings off and see if the sensor has crud on it.
